ACKWORTH SCHOOL
Non Sibi Sed Omnibus
Not for oneself but for all
Ackworth has always been a co-educational, boarding and day school. For over 240 years, we have maintained a passion for teaching and learning. We are proud of our traditions and family values, but equally proud of our innovative approach to co-education.
Ackworth is a dynamic and forward-thinking school. We strive to develop resilient individuals who not only think creatively, but also act ethically and with responsibility. We encourage our students to express themselves with confidence, to embody the Quaker value of speaking respectfully to others, but also in a way that is true to themselves and their beliefs.
Located in a beautiful rural setting in Yorkshire, we offer broad educational opportunities from nursery age to sixth form, for day pupils and boarders.
Some of these opportunities are:
proven academic performance
a safe and supportive atmosphere
the strength of quiet reflection
excellent sport, music, drama, visual arts and recreational facilities
The Ackworth School Oxbridge Programme supports our Sixth Form students with a pathway to some of the most competitive placements at UK universities. With the top courses becoming increasingly more sought after, it is well known good grades form just one part of a successful application.
The Oxbridge Pathways Programme is designed to support pupils in their applications to their chosen universities, whether it be a Russell Group university such as Oxford or Cambridge, or any other competitive course.

The Extended Project Qualification
Elite Football Academy in partnership with Harrogate Town AFC
Ackworth School, in partnership with English Football League Two club Harrogate Town AFC, is proud to offer an elite football development programme. Students enrolling in the academy will benefit from high levels of contact time per week with our school-based UEFA licence qualified Director of Football. This will comprise of regular individual and group skills coaching sessions, regular football matches for both the Academy (and for the school when possible), and supervised strength and conditioning training.
The Ackworth School Table Tennis Academy is a pre-eminent programme not only within UK boarding schools, but within the junior game. The programme offers students the chance to excel under a world class coach within a school environment which champions traditional values. Our students compete in division one of the Junior British League and train in our bespoke table tennis centre. Pupils also have the opportunity to travel abroad to train and play in international tournaments.
Students at Ackworth School have an outstanding opportunity to play squash at a highly competitive level due to our unique affiliation with the world class Pontefract Squash Club. The collaboration allows students within the squash academy access to the highest level of coaching, offering a tremendous advantage when competing; this can serve as a springboard to a professional career within the squash.
We are the UK’s oldest co-educational school educating both boys and girls since 1779.
On the last day of the summer term, all pupils take part in the ‘Grand March’ around the Green.
The school building was originally built as a foundling hospital in the 1750’s before becoming a school in 1779.
As a Quaker school, our pupils attend silent meeting for worship on a Thursday, providing them with the opportunity to reflect and enjoy a period of mindfulness.
Establishment of our Wellbeing Hub (2023). The wellbeing hub provides pupils with our key pastoral support services all in one place.
Launch of Football Academy partnership with Harrogate Town AFC.
Ongoing refurbishment of our boarding house, providing with a home from home.
